RESCHEDULED:  May 15 Grand Opening of New Splash Pad Planned for Walker Park

Fayetteville, Ark – The City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department will hold a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, at 5:00 P.M. to celebrate the opening of Fayetteville’s first splash pad. This new facility and the festivities will be located in Walker Park at 1087 S. Block Avenue in South Fayetteville. The event was rescheduled from its original planned date of Saturday, May 11, due to predicted rain and chilly temperatures.

The 3,065 square-foot splash pad is the newest amenity added to Walker Community Park and is located on the north end near the playground, pavilion and skatepark.

The new splash pad will fit nicely with other amenities at the park which include a baseball complex, skatepark, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, as well as access to the Razorback Regional Greenway Trail. Features of the new facility include floor geysers, colorful and interactive above-ground spray features, and a large dump bucket sure to create endless excitement. Located around the splash pad are shade structures and seating as well. The splash pad will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, from the second Saturday in May to the third Saturday in September.

“The City is excited to give the residents of Fayetteville a fun, safe and interactive aquatic amenity to enjoy for years to come,” said Park Planning Superintendent Ted Jack. “This is the first of many improvement projects in Walker Park that we know will make it one of the premier parks in Northwest Arkansas.”

The grand opening will be the first opportunity for the public to experience the splash pad since its completion in the Fall of 2018 by RJR Enterprises. The ceremony will include remarks by dignitaries, a short ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the first official “push” of the splash pad plunger. Parks and Recreation will be on site with information on upcoming summer programs and events as well as a chance to win free passes to the Wilson Park Pool. The Rusty Dycus Agency will be on hand with their Operation Kidsafe Child Safety Center to provide FREE Amber Alert Ready Safety Forms for youth in the community. Attendees will be able to purchase a sweet treat as the Kona Shaved Ice Truck will be there spreading their sweet tunes and island vibes.
